Paul Cabuts uses photography to record landmarks in Wales. He was initially motivated by the differences between his personal experiences of living and working in the south Wales Valleys and the ways in which the region had been represented in photography and other media. His ongoing work explores the dynamic forces that shape the way we live and how we are defined.

“The contradictions and complexities I encountered through making photographs led me to engage with the culture and physicality of a region previously interrogated by a number of renowned photographers. Through research into their work it has been possible to build an understanding of their imperatives and to reveal the differing forces shaping their output. My survey, which has extended over two decades, explores the residual, emergent and oppositional cultural elements relating to a society radically shaped by the systems and processes of expanding free market economies".
